Bulgarian Research Infrastructure for Food, Nutrition and Health

The Bulgarian node is composed of several independently performing organizations in the academic, governmental and non-governmental sector, focused on fundamental research, high-quality education and tailored research applications in the field of agriculture, food technology, biotechnology, nutrition and medicine. It is coordinated by the University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv.

Our main goal is to bring together the existing resources of infrastructure for education, fundamental and applied research and to establish new capacity of human resources, research expertise and technological equipment in order to make use of the best scientific achievements in the area of agriculture, food technology and medicine. The aim of the BG node is to unite and link all elements of the agri-food chain, nutrition, health digitalization processes and the implementation of innovative technologies.

Our mission is to ensure optimal conditions for high-tech research in a new generation infrastructure and to create scientific excellence by using the synergy of agriculture, food science, medicine and information technology. We are also committed to support the professional education and scientific career of young researchers, to stimulate the implementation of research results into practice and the commercialization of scientific products focused on:

  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Innovative processes for the bioeconomy
  • Food metagenomics and metabolomics
  • Food design and technology
  • Biomarkers detection related to food safety and quality
  • Healthy dietary practices
  • Digital technologies in agriculture and food industry
  • Nutrition data banking
